Jimmy Butler isn’t too happy that his former teammate PJ Tucker left Miami for Philadelphia in free agency. Jimmy Butler already has a history with Joel Embiid and the 76ers, so I am sure this move is more salt on the wound for Jimmy Buckets.
After the deal was finalized, Tucker tried to leave Miami with class by sending a heartfelt farewell through Instagram. Butler responded, “F**k you and Joel Embiid.”
Tucker recently took a three-year, $33.2 million contract to go to Philadelphia. Miami was only paying him $7.4 million a year. Ultimately, he declined his player option and got more somewhere else.
Tucker was a key contributor to the Heat last season. Known for his defensive prowess, he helped the Heat be a top-five defensive team last season, while still contributing 7.6 PPG on 48.4% shooting, adding five rebounds and two assists per game.
However, for the 76ers, this, at first glance, looks like a great addition to their team. But they have to realize that Tucker is 37 years old. On a three-year deal, and that’s if he plays through his entire contract, Tucker will be playing until he is 40. For $10 million a year, that seems expensive for a 37-year-old. However, if Tucker can still play defense at a high level, I’m sure it won’t matter. Father Time is undefeated, though it’s more of a when not if, Tucker will start to decline.
Butler doesn’t care though; he’s had beef already with Embiid and the 76ers and this move only adds on to that. I love Jimmy Butler’s mentality that if you ain’t with us, you’re against us. The NBA schedule isn’t released until mid-August, but you best believe Jimmy Butler is circling the dates against the 76ers. We can’t wait.
